Whatever the season, this is a visit you won’t want to miss out on in Lège-Cap Ferret. Admire one of the finest panoramic views of the Bay of Arcachon from the top of the Lighthouse or at the very tip of the peninsula.
Climb to the top
Head to Cap Ferret Lighthouse for one of the most spectacular views of the holiday!
This symbolic and unmissable location is one of the must-sees in the Bay, and is also an opportunity for a spot of exercise as you climb the 258 steps in the Lighthouse!
The view from the top is breath-taking. From here, nearly 35 m above the ground, you can enjoy a 360° view of the Ile aux Oiseaux, the Dune du Pilat, the access channels or “passes”, oyster farms, etc.
If you can, time your visit for the start or end of the day, just as the sky is changing colour.
Visit the museum and buy souvenirs at the Lighthouse shop
After your ascent, enjoy an interactive walk around the monument on the theme of navigation and the development of marine cartography.
Before you leave, drop into the Lighthouse shop to pick up a few unique presents.
The shop is also a favourite among the local residents, who come here to buy presents for their guests!
Follow the “Abécédaire des Dunes” path
How about a trip out surrounded by forest and sand dunes? Set off along the 5 km interpretive trail path to discover the fauna and flora of Cap Ferret. You will find panels with each letter of the alphabet from the edge of Cap Ferret to the very tip of the peninsula explaining all about the dune, tides, maritime life and bird migration.
Admire the view at Cap Ferret Point
Take a moment to sit on the sand and enjoy a 180° view of the Dune du Pilat, the Banc d’Arguin and the passes and listen to the sound of the lapping water.
This is where the calm water of the Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean.
If you look closely, you will see the currents mixing together… beautiful!
