Take a walk along the longest pier in France
Stroll to the end of the 232m-long pier with your camera in hand to admire the view of boats and oyster-farm stakes and watch the birds, and for a truly magnificent panoramic view, come and discover it at sunset! Not far from the pier, you can walk along Boulevard de la Plage to admire the attractive local-style houses, called Arcachonnaises.
Relax in the oyster port
While you’re here, take the opportunity to wander along flower-covered alleys in the oyster port. The cabins here are all different colours! For lunch, take a seat in a restaurant and enjoy a seafood platter, or on the water’s edge to watch the coming and going of flat-bottomed oyster-farmer’s boats returning to harbour. Nearby, visit Saint-Éloi church dating from the 11th century with its magnificent friezes, capitals and murals, then stop off at the remains of a 4th-century Gallo-Roman villa.
Explore the countryside
From the oyster port, set off to discover St-Brice Les Quinconces, one of Arcachon Bay’s natural sites. Follow the coastal path to enjoy a view of the whole bay from Pointe des Quinconces.
Treat yourself to a swim at Conche de St Brice beach
Lazing on the beach
It’s all part of the holiday! Buy an ice cream from a local stand and relax on the edge of the beach with sound of lapping water in the background. In Andernos-les-Bains you can choose from Quinconces beach and the beaches at the oyster port and the pier. Children will love Bétey beach with its swings and beach activities!
Delve into the estey channels
Go on an outing to look for shellfish, crabs and clams hiding in the mud in the channels at low tide. Accompanied by a guide, you can explore this natural spot while children learn about the different species living in the Bay. For more information on this guided tour in July and August, contact the Tourist Office.
Check out the events programme
Join in with the local ambiance day and night. In summer, events are held every evening on the esplanade of the pier, and for those who love shopping Andernos’s shops are open all year round and stay open late in summer!
